"more broad appeal"?
If it gets anymore broader than WoW it'll be Free Realms.
No, what I think he means to say is Sony usually announces games ahead of time while MS saves up for event day.
At this point though, I'm going to go ahead and say Sony is in a better position. They can now afford to announce games ahead of time because it seems like they have so many more games coming out for their platforms this year. I think MS is a bit spent. They've been "saving up" for most of this year only to give away very few major announcements. The year is a...
That's the strength of sacrificing good 1st party studios to develop Natal games. Yeah, thanks for that, MS.
^^^This is called sarcasm.
Mix space travel and a typical JRPG together and you get Star Ocean.
Some nice SO features:
-Real-time battles like "Tales of..." games
-Item creation and synthesis
-Optional party members (you usually can't get them all in one play)
-Many multiple endings
The sole feature that bothers me (and probably bothers most) about XBL is having to pay to play for online MP when all of their competitors can afford not to. Making NXE, chat, vision chat, Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm etc. premium perks would be enough, perhaps? But I think they'll always play it safe by charging for the MP.
At the same time it's weird to me that online play on consoles arguably became such a driving force with Xbox and not PS2 even though MS charged for...
Craft World? Anyone else mentally add in "war" and "of"?
No prob, +bubs to you too
I really won't be playing either of these for the waterworks, but if it's that deep, more power to them. I don't doubt they've still made two good games overall in spite of w/e tears I will or won't shed.
@nycre: One thing I could definitely agree with is the fact that these kinds of games sacrifice some character development for the freedom of crafting your own protagonist. Very few games manage to be both malleable and dramatically engrossing. In fact, I can only name two: Planescape: Torment and BGII.
@Rei: I don't doubt that DA:O might not make anyone cry, but I think you chose a very poor example in BG if you're including BGII.
@Spoony: Right, I forgot about KH358/2 as well.
But yes, I think a lot of devs are maybe too content to settle on 2D stuff or 2D/3D which is ok. But if more devs put out stuff as good looking as this and the other games mentioned, maybe fewer people would be yelling the DS can't do decent 3D. Because let's face it. The majority of mainstream gamers can't see beyond a good screenshot. But despite the difference in style, I think this could be one of those titles that quite noticea...
nycre, I don't think you said what you meant because even a cursory examination of stories proves that you'd be very wrong...
It has nothing to do with setting and everything to do with the emotion. Maybe I don't know what it's like to save the universe from killer robots, but everyone knows what it's like to make sacrifices to attain your goals. That a game takes place in space or has alien dragons ridden by magic ninja monkies doesn't negate the presence of real emotion in the...
I'd honestly like to know where it was announced that Natal would function with Fable 3 or Forza 4. Molyneux explored "touch" and maybe made some oblique peripheral allusions to it in his press conference at Gamescom, but that's as far as it went.
Edit: Nvm, read it wrong
Thanks, and to be clear, I'm not against casual stuff at all. There's nothing wrong with Natal being casual and nothing wrong with MS wanting to capitalise on that market. Got no problems with Rare's games so long as they're good. They don't have to be oozing buzz cuts and gun oil imo.
But I'm sure myself and the main demographic of 360, which is presumably hardcore, want as much dedication to games that tickle our fancies as well. Whether that be FPS or shooter or platformer or ...
@Spoony: Okay well, I don't call JRPGs RPGs. I kind of hate that. When I say RPGs I'm usually referring to all RPGs W and J and K or w/e.
Though admittedly, I'd have to be talking about JRPGs since WPRGs aren't a hot product and don't exist in any great number on DS. But I hardly wish to point the finger just because of that coincidental statistic. Orcs and Elves I hear was a crap port from mobile. So yeah they might learn a few lessons here if this game has the gameplay to back ...
Ok, I usually don't go so one-sided, but it is patently ridiculous for people to think MS is concentrated on hardcore titles for Natal. First, that's not saying they won't have those kinds of games. What I'm saying is that they are obviously not focused on them.
First there's Rare. They are not interested in making 360 games for the traditional 360 audience. And the standard fare for 360 are those hardcore games like FPS. This was said by Rare where they admitted finally MS and ...
I have to admit, that's a hell of a leap from what I'm used to seeing.
And holy crap it's just as good in motion: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Never thought I'd see a RPG of this calibre (or a WRPG at all) on DS. Big Blue Bubble? They're certainly on my radar now.
Now, IF this is just as long and rich as other DS RPGs... I guess the obligatory question is what's holding back a...
Ok. So I'm right. Except in a few cases. Is that what you're saying?
You said at first that the argument doesn't hold water with any current gen game. Admittedly there aren't many cross play titles to choose from. But Shadowrun, which came out in 2007, is a shooter that bridges the gap and the devs had to take extreme measures to make sure the mouse couldn't outperform the controller.
I'm not out to say mouse/keyboard is better overall, but it is quite obviously fas...
Wii can't?
I'm not much of a Wii fan, but I don't see how it's fundamentally different from say Metroid Prime Trilogy.
Jager, wherever you are, I wonder what made you pick BG original over BG2?
I really like Planescape: Torment. Of course it's my favourite PC RPG. But I can't very well argue with BG2 and Fallout.
One of the better lists to come through here imo. A few classics, a few new, and better justifications to the opinions than "it was freaking awesome!"
Video isn't working for me either though.
That's because this was submitted a long time ago when the article was new (August 20). Duplicate.
I am not satisfied at all. I think these devs need to do more than try to make me buy $200 3D glasses for one game. 3D is a cool thing to implement, but seriously? Arguably the best benefit of this port costs a lot extra.
This is just one more thing that makes me dislike how devs treat PC vs their console base. On console if I'm forced to wait for a timed-exclusive to peter out, the devs come out with an entirely new version with loads of new content for the other console (PS3 th...
